55p for a kiwi dollar :D That's the best I've seen it in the two years I've been here.
The kiwi has never ever been this strong I am sure and it will get worse for those of us who want our funds in NZ |
Re: Currency
Yep, When we left NZ for the UK in 2000 it was $3-1GBP now we have come back and have GBP to change the rates sucks. We have got to be the unluckiest people when it comes to making money. We also sold our Petone house in 2000 now prices there have rocketed. Oh well, just bought a lotto ticket, you never know.

Yet worldwide your probably in the top 2% by income :).
One has to be philosophical. We have screwed up royally re money throughout out lives - and it's not for poor planning. We are just really unlucky. And yet I know plenty of people that never plan, never take precautions and they've made a killing. The luck of the Irish is with some people, but not with me! |

It's all relative.

Yep us too. Since coming to NZ we have had a huge amount of fiscal misfortune, some of my own making and bad planning, some due to poor timing, bad luck and shite finance companies. And my new re roof has just fallen thru'......the job not the actual roof. Arvo years of planning and much money its all fallen apart 2 weeks before the job was to start...triple bollocks.

Ditto being paid in NZD is becoming more lucrative however.
The UK is destroying its currency value to try and become more competitive, the government have been ineffective at creating employment and inflation is well above BOE target. http://apps.anz.co.nz/charts/nzdgbp_4_float.gif http://www.interest.co.nz/news/63155...arlier-planned |

Can't be too long. Otherwise NZ will end up like Greece, being too expensive, losing export markets and becoming poorer.

If it does get 1 to 1 there will be no export market for NZ, it has already lost loads of jobs and business due to the high kiwi. NZ will slowly implode as the kiwi continues to gain strength. A madly overvalued currency is NOT a good thing unless like you are selling your kiwis. I wish I was, would be minted, kiwi $s are worth sooooooooooooooo much these days!!!!!
It will be interesting to see what the future will bring. Who knows what will happen to the EU! There might be good or bad surprises waiting for us in any direction. |
