Best/worse?? Depends on which way your cash is going eh? I do wonder how many people ambivalent with life in NZ will see this as the catalyst for going back from whence they came.

The kiwi has never ever been this strong I am sure and it will get worse for those of us who want our funds in NZ

Yep, When we left NZ for the UK in 2000 it was $3-1GBP now we have come back and have GBP to change the rates sucks. We have got to be the unluckiest people when it comes to making money. We also sold our Petone house in 2000 now prices there have rocketed. Oh well, just bought a lotto ticket, you never know.

It's all relative.

One has to be philosophical. We have screwed up royally re money throughout out lives - and it's not for poor planning. We are just really unlucky. And yet I know plenty of people that never plan, never take precautions and they've made a killing. The luck of the Irish is with some people, but not with me!

Yep us too. Since coming to NZ we have had a huge amount of fiscal misfortune, some of my own making and bad planning, some due to poor timing, bad luck and shite finance companies. And my new re roof has just fallen thru'......the job not the actual roof. Arvo years of planning and much money its all fallen apart 2 weeks before the job was to start...triple bollocks.

Truss man suddenly says he can't do it, builder gets the willies and I am left holding a screaming baby. Metaphorically speaking.

Hey shit happens, thanks for your concern mate. I must say I always thought there were issues around service and attitudes from tradespeople in the UK but over here it is just sooooooooooooooooooo bad that it ain't funny.

Can't be too long. Otherwise NZ will end up like Greece, being too expensive, losing export markets and becoming poorer.

Good time to move back to Europe though. The Euro isn't doing well either. I am quite happy to exchange my $ for €€.

If it does get 1 to 1 there will be no export market for NZ, it has already lost loads of jobs and business due to the high kiwi. NZ will slowly implode as the kiwi continues to gain strength. A madly overvalued currency is NOT a good thing unless like you are selling your kiwis. I wish I was, would be minted, kiwi $s are worth sooooooooooooooo much these days!!!!!

Yep, Germany is doing relatively well at the moment, because its products are good and the selling price is right. The low Euro helps a lot. Although it makes imports more expensive and German companies depend a lot on imports of raw materials. But also the fact that the wages have stagnated in the last decade or two has helped. NZ is already a low wage country. Can't really see much that can be done to reduce production prices even further. And of course most NZ products can easily be substituted. There are other countries that produce milk and beef. The high $ will be a huge problem for NZ export companies.

It will be interesting to see what the future will bring. Who knows what will happen to the EU! There might be good or bad surprises waiting for us in any direction.
