Creepy Crawlies in New Zealand

First we have the Weta!

Then we have a giant Weta eating spider (12cms across)

But the one I hate most of all. Due to being often woken at at night by one my kids "there's a giant cockroach in the bedroom"

then you have the White Tail, who may or may not bite and cause issues depending on who you talk to, what day it is and if its the morning or afternoon

A thread for creepy crawlies?

Genus: National MP
Species: Todd Barclay

Picture:
https://resources.stuff.co.nz/conten...9400238164.jpg

Notes:
- High level of inherent mistrust of people who work for him (and he gives them good reason.)
- Surreptitiously records conversation when he leaves the room.

:sneaky:

I think Todd Barclay might be a subspecies of the Bennett-Bridges species

Look at that photo,
I don't think you could find two more objectionable creatures if you tried

Oh gawd, I knew there were Weta's (i've only seen one pinned up in Canterbury Museum!) but I didn't know they had huge spiders! I thought I was leaving that all behind in Australia!

They really do have monster cockroaches, spiders, nice big bats out in my back tree at night, and snakes right here in suburbia!

Michelle :)

Re: Creepy Crawlies in New Zealand

I've not seen a Weta anywhere other than in zoos and on Tiritiri Matangi island.
We are mostly troubled by flies, bush cockroaches and horrible black crickets. Cicadas are a pain some years. We get praying mantis in the house on occasions but I like them. We get various spiders until a whitetail moves in.

We also get wee skinks coming to visit and I love them too.
It's really not that bad.

Ahh little skinks, they are so cute! I love frogs, I am jealous my sister who lives not far from me, found a baby green tree frog in her bathroom, so cute!

I can't remember bugs over there last time I lived in Christchurch, I do remember cockroaches (who doesn't !!) but I think they are bigger over here in Oz..

I think the Weta is rather cute :)
