This thread reminds me of an encounter I had two years ago and posted then:

Was having a lovely relaxing bath yesterday, reading an article in the newspaper supplement. I see movement and look up to see 2 then 3 then 4 big legs clambering over the top of the newspaper followed by a head and body [and more legs]. Have never moved so fast, the paper got thrown to the other side of the room. After looking at the paper for a few moments and making sure 'it' wasn't in the bath or on the floor, I carefully got out of the bath and shook the paper. Out dropped a whitetail with a big fat body and thick legs- only the second one I've ever seen and one of the biggest spiders I've seen over here, seriously it was huge

It has now been removed and is in safe storage in a bag in the wheelie bin-it cannot escape from there

We had been in our new house about 6 months. The one night I told the wife that I was going for a quick shower, she told me that she had captured a big white tail and it was under a glass tumbler in the bath. I went in and there was a tumbler but no spider Twas a very quick shower......
Never saw it again!

And as I sit here with my day-glo green shower cap on my head for the next 20 minutes, I reflect upon the so far unmentioned crawlies...the darn kutus!!!! A particularly ferocious bunch over here...

Oh dear hope that does the trick

I never heard them called that before and had to google kutus - now I have an itchy head.

Diatomaceous earth is supposed to be good for ants and any other bugs, it kills fleas and also is good for putting in hen house nest boxes to stop red spider mite. It basically is claimed to be wonderful for lots of applications. I bought a bag and use it as a facial scrub and it works well. You can take it with water to scrub your insides out too apparently but I don't know if I would try that.
Google it and give it a try, at least it avoids chemicals and it might work.

If you own the house you could have fly screens/doors fitted. They're wonderful. I can actually leave food out in the kitchen. If you don't own the house and have metal window frames you can get magnetic fly screens. I saw some, made to measure, on trade me a while back, which were a good price. The one seems to use magnetic tape so can be used on wood:

D.I.Y.MAGNETIC INSECT FLY SCREEN / FORMAL FRAME | Trade Me

I also use the automatic spray for bugs and stuff

Seems to have been a right old year for flies in Auckland this early summer, but getting a bit better now. On the positive side we have discovered that fly swatting keeps the kids occupied for ages!

I have become a fly assassin. My last 14 kills have been at a 100% success rate; 1st swish of the fly swat to kill ratio.

Yes, I've become that obsessed (sad) that I'm now mentally recording my efforts.

On another note, woe betide any wingless bugs wandering in to our home, the likelihood is that, if seen, they'll be eaten by the cat!

The same cat who doesn't bring mice in as a "present" but Skinks/Geckos and (when it's rained) earthworms.

We keep finding reptilian tails around the place!

I live up on the 12th Floor. No insecticides or creepy crawlies up here - too far for them to climb I guess.
