Costs of living in NZ
Hello everyone,
We're contemplating moving to NZ and wondered how people found the cost of living- bills, running a car, food, health costs etc. We lived in Wellington a few years ago but only rented a very small and cheap apartment so the costs will be quite different as we would look to buy a house.
We are guessing that we would both be on salaries of about 32K and are looking at maybe the Nelson area in the SI.
Thanks!

IMHO the cost of living in NZ (based on my short visit and the opinions of the 10 close relations that we have living there) is that in relation to Wages , prices, and in recent months house prices the cost of living is more expensive than the UK......thats why when we go to live in NZ we should perhaps strive to live / spend differently......anyway thats my take on it

Well, we (2 working) have an income of over $100k in Auckland, and have a lower standard of living than we would in the UK earning the equivalent. Pretty much everything is comparitively way more expensive, that's the basics, the luxuries (like clothes) are just phenomenally expensive.
The Eau de Toilette that cost 14quid in the UK retails for nearer $150 here

I'm just wondering where you got the figures of $32,000 from.
Are you a nurse?
