Cost of Living - Bills etc
I am currently trying to compose a spreadsheet of expected income and expenditure in NZ.
I have figured out the income, and the potential cost of renting a 3 bed home in Hamilton.
What I am struggling with is the expected costs of everything else. There will be one adult and two children (11 and 16). Can anyone help?
Electric
Telephone
Broadband
Mobile Phone
Gorceries (including food and cleaning products etc)
Health Insurance (different options and costs)
Car Insurance
Petrol
Buying a Car
School
Childcare Costs (I will be working shifts)
Anything else I've missed!
Thanks :-)

Ok, I can give you my costs for me on my own, might help a bit (as you know I'm in Auckland but, other than housing, I dont find things cost any different here than they did in Rotorua)
Electric - I pay around $70/month in summer about $130 in winter (before I factor in spa pool costs). I use the drier occasionally in winter and dont scrimp in any way on electricity.
Telephone/Broadband - my home phone and broadband are together in a package. I pay $75/month for phone, internet and 40g of broadband data
Mobile Phone - contract with Telecom 600 texts, 150 minutes and 750mb of data for $39
Groceries (including food and cleaning products etc) - depends but on average $200/fortnight and I'm not doing any real budget shopping I just buy what I need.
Health Insurance (different options and costs) - dont have any health insurance. For info my combined car/house/contents insurance costs $150/month
Petrol - $50/week and I travel 60kms a day to work
Buying a Car - my first car here I bought for $2000, was an old crappy Honda that I hated. Traded it in (after 8 weeks!) bought a 2001 Toyota Corolla Stationwagon, really low kilometers, for $10k
School - no idea
Childcare Costs (I will be working shifts) - again, no idea
Anything else I've missed! -
Water - costs me around $30/month. Some landlords factor this into your rent but not all.
Rates - if you rent this is paid by your landlord, if you buy it depends on your house value, mine is $100/month
GP - prices vary hugely, my last GP cost $35 per visit, my present one costs $16. Prescriptions cost $5/each
Dentists - too expensive for me to know how much they cost!
Sky(if you want it) - I have regular Sky and movies $100/month
Midwifery specific things
NZCOM fees - $30/month
MERAS (midwifery union) - $20/month
Annual Practicing Certificate - $400/year, if your employed the DHB will pay this, you pay your own if your an LMC
Midwifery Standards Review - $400/every 2 years, again paid by the DHB if your employed.
Thanks :-)

Thanks Lisa :-)
And thanks Mrs F, I did have a quick try first, but couldn't find anything specific really. I will have a more in depth attempt though :-)

The only thing that isn't there (apart from school and child care costs which may not be relevant to you) is the cost of the weekly household groceries (food, cleaning products etc)...

Re: Cost of Living - Bills etc
OK, my worst case scenario spreadsheet is showing a teeny weeny $9.54 surplus each week
However, this really is worst case scenario because it's based on the minimum basic salary I can expect. For certain I will get more in the way of extra payments for unsocial hours. I may, possibly, get a higher basic salary too.
In any case, the salary will increase after the first year, and every year there after for a little while, so it's definitely doable.

Factors in health insurance. Visa upgrade will come under my 'costs to move' budget seperately. Car maintenance is a tricky one, there will be some residual cash coming with me, hopefully sufficient to supplement the 'rainy day' costs such as car and home appliances etc
