Default Cost of living - Auckland and around

Having whacked a load of figures into a spreadsheet, including rent (3/4 bed place "somewhere" in Auckland), child care costs, food/booze, etc we have come up with a figure of $1067 per week. From the comfort of our home in the UK we have little or no idea if this figure is fair and accurate. So, can anyone out there living and working in New Zealand give us an idea if this is accurate or not?

We would love to hear from any recent migrants to New Zealand, or those currently in the EOI or application stage, to compare notes, share ideas etc.
Our 9 year old daughter would love to hear from any migrant children to help give her confidence about what to expect from New Zealand.

Many thanks!

$1067 as opposed to $1068 then??

Depends where "somewhere in Auckland" is, how much booze, if youre putting money away towards savings/ holidays etc, but it seems in the right ballpark, perhaps a bit low depending on how many kids you have.

To be able to get this money after tax youd need a salary in the orderf of around 80k per year (roughly), that also seems to be the figure many here say is needed in Auckland.

Other places in NZ are cheaper, especially for accommodation.

That figure sounds right. All depends on where and what type of life style you are accustomed too.

Rental Accomodation varies from $250.00 upwards, Groceries approx $200 per week (family 4), Beer/wine - depends on how much you drink but ball park figure approx $60, Childcare depends on what type your after. I used to look after children after school and was paid $5.00 per hr per child.

Sounds about right as a basic budget - ie rent, food and bills. Try adding on the extras like holidays, cars, kids clothes, toys, socialising and see what you get.

Dont fall into the trap of thinking you'll manage in Auckland on an average NZ salary - you wont.
