Dear All,
I have been searching for any sites or answers in this site for basic cost of living. Such as what an average (i know what is average, however my family is two adults two children and two dogs) weekly shop is, electricity, gas, petrol, council tax, road tax, medical insurance etc.
Any person experiences would be greatly appreciated.
regards,
nirrade.

Re: cost of living
we've spent the last few months following a budget ( something we've never done before cos we are rubbish!) I have to say we are enjoying it, it's opened our eyes no end. We're having to adapt it a little as we go cos we really hadnt a clue when we started. It scared us to find out how much we were overspending.
Anyway these are monthly amounts for just 2 of us but 4 cats and 3 big dogs, chickens and 2 donkeys! Small house so I have no idea why the electricity is so much.
My DH has a 45 km round trip to work.
here goes
monthly grocery shop $800 ( this has gone down from an original total of $1200 just by budgeting carefully and making a weekly menu for dinners)
Electricity $300
Rates $149
Gas bottle for cooker $8
Petrol $700 ( )
$50 medical insurance
$200 for insurances ( house and cars)
$80 phone
$65 broadband
this is the basic budget, obviously there is more, we have a holiday savings amount, garden stuff, eating out, etc etc but only do these things if we havent blown the budget. As I said this is all new to us and has come about through necessity ( ie living beyond our earnings!!) but its all good

Re: cost of living
hi there,
to add to the previous post, we live in christchurch and our costs per month are;
groceries - $800
council rates - $200 (rates are based on house value, this is for a house of $650k)
petrol - $350 - 400 per vehicle - car is a 4.0litre
insurance house, two cars and medical for all the family, trauma, death etc around $450 per month
power - colder in our part of the world - winter around $500/month summer around $170 per month
think that covers it?
