Re: Coronavirus
I now know 6 people who have had it and all have made a full recovery. its time to stop focussing on new case figures and open up again.
In the uk the number of deaths in October, for any reason, is exactly in line with where it should be based on a 5 year average, and this is including covid deaths. It is no more a threat to life than other viruses or diseases.
This isn't going to go away, it will be like the flu, we will get our annual jabs and carry on.

Its out of control again! There were more than 350 deaths from covid-19 yesterday and hospitals are filling up rapidly!
There have been 1,172,075 deaths worldwide so far and this is a long way from being over!
Its under control in NZ .. Keep it that way! .. Its deadly!

The fatality rate for covid-19 is at least 5 X that of seasonal flu!

Government to open Australia travel bubble apparently.
Makes sense, the isolation facilities are already almost at full capacity with flights being pulled as people start to return for Christmas. Also good to see people will get their money back from Air New Zealand after that commerce commission ruling, they where completely out of order to hold funds for cancelled flights when no reasonable alternative service was available.

We'll see, the capacity constraints on the existing system will always be an issue at periods of peak demand, like the next few months. I expect the government play their cards pretty close to their chest as a matter of political expediency which is unfortunate for people trying to cling onto their jobs in airlines and tourism as, even whe opened, it will likely mean fewer people booking.

Re: Coronavirus
Deaths per capita are picking up again heading into winter. A good anology for the risk level is car crashes I think, for a long time the risk in most European countries was lower than car crashes.
If you look at New Zealand road deaths there are about 2.2 deaths per million people per week but the UK has experienced 36 deaths per million per week last week. Even what you would consider a well run response like Germany is at about 8 per million per week.

Re: Coronavirus
Just a mention of Long Covid in the UK.
Guardian article on Long Covid
The figure they quote of 10% affected is very worrying, and highlights the fact that it isn't just a choice of living or dying but of recovery to full fitness after an infection.
