That's an oopsie then. Sorry I know that sounds tough but everyone's been made aware enough about this killer virus and told what restrictions could and would happen. It is for four weeks innit . You either bought clothing before, when you did your grocery shop , or you buy it in a few weeks time. No money? There is layby.

The Warehouse is well out of order. It is non-essential just as other retails stores are. If people are in difficulties then make contact with the necessary agencies.

If folks are not yet in their own homes then they were a bit daft leaving it all to the last minute IMO. If they now remain out of their own homes or have no static place of residence then they are in their mobile homes for the duration and should remain static where they are just like the rest of us. In any case they should/would have been aware and bought in the necessary when there was still the chance.

Y'know . We were in NZ in December 1997 down in Wanaka when the weather actually turned to snow. We had no winter clothes with us as you can imagine. We put on all our clothes and socks to keep warm as we could & rugged up with the bedding. Bit like I did as a kid and a young adult.

I can see one of the disadvantages of remaining at home for me is shoving food into my mouth. Need to pick up my exercise or I'll have to self-isolate from food for a month after this!

I've hid certain items from MrBEVs and will dole those out. He snacks. I don't.

If they cannot afford to top up all employees wages to 80% then likely there will be redundancies.

Really? That seems crazy, surely if a company can no longer afford to top up to 80% they should at least be able to pay the subsidy to each employee as means to keep them as staff. Redundancies would merely mean workers signing on for benefits and getting a fraction of what the subsidy would have give them

Our learning this week:
- Households are told they are 'poorly managed' if living paycheck-to-paycheck, told they should have at least a month of savings and will not be getting a bailout.
- Corporations (inc. $bn+) that tell us they are 'well managed' are on the brink of bankruptcy and being granted bailouts after couple of weeks of reduced cashflow.

Privatising profits and socialising losses has become so normal we accept this as modern capitalism.

It will be a little while before I'm back home in NZ but I'm safe here in Oz. Out of self isolation tomorrow but can't do much anyway apart from study.

Upside is there's beautiful acreage here at my friend's house, enjoying gardening and the weather isn't hot here at the moment. I hate the heat. At least I'm healthy. Better to be bored and healthy.

Hope everyone is doing ok. I suspect the NSW premier will lock down here soon as it seems Scomo won't do it. I hope she does.

Its absolutely abhorrent that certain Governments are not issuing orders for mandatory stay at home.
I sincerely hope that NZ Government does not allow any entry to anyone via transit or otherwise to enter NZ until this pandemic has been declared over by WHO and there are NO cases in such countries

I agree here. I just wish Scott Morrison or at least the NSW premier Gladys Berejelkian would lock down like NZ has, I'm all for it and so are so many people I know.

Can you believe Qld still had their Council elections yesterday? Like seriously.

Does quarantine, as its being done in western countries, actually work? Italy quarantined nationally from the 8/9th of March, related deaths are rising three weeks later.

Ask this on the Italy forum perhaps. Lorna has been in lockdown along with the rest of them for a long while now. I'm sure they'd give you their personal opinions from the front line.

There will always be a rise after lock down because of all the people already infected but not showing symptoms.
If the numbers are still climbing exponentially after 3-4 weeks the lock down isn't working.
It is the rate of increase that is important.
If everyone who is infected then infects 2 or 3 more the rate of infections per day just snowballs.
If everyone just infects one person the rate of infection stabilises and hopefully people are recovering at the same rate as new infections.
If each person infects less than one person the rate of new infections drops and things are looking much better.
The total number of infections and deaths will keep on climbing for a long time.
It is the daily rate of new infections that it is vital to reduce and eventually eliminate.
