any news on what the NZ government are doing about this? Or will it be a case of too little too late again?
The US, UK and several other countries have organised separate arrival areas for flights from affected areas

What can they do? Probably too late to contain it and there is likely to be little appetite to stop travel from countries impacted to slow transmission.
Like good Kiwis we shall cross our fingers and hope that she'll come right.
Edit to add: The mortality rate appears to be in the 2-3% range currently. Not high enough to affect property prices so I doubt government will do much.

I just hope this all blows over very soon! I travel from the UK to Tauranga on the 4th march and I have a 5 hour layover at Shanghai airport

this isn't going to blow over any time soon, it's a right mess in China
I give it a few days and we will have multiple confirmed cases here

Only about a week too late, eh. Good grief.
Cobra was launched over a week ago regarding this and Jacinda would've had the intel from that. They should've banned all incoming flights back then, with extra measures in place. But again it's complacency and ignorance

Health Minister David Clark said; no worries, the risk in New Zealand is low. She'll be right, I understand we now have two nurses on the ground in Auckland and Christchurch International Airports to take the temperature of incoming passengers who feel unwell. LOL

I've been back and forth between Chch and Sydney and will be all year as I'm an Aussie who lives in Nz but am taking advantage of being able to retrain in a new career and it costs me minimal in Oz.
Maybe I'm just being a paranoid dork about flying and the virus! 😁
