Re: Coronavirus
It’s been clear since the beginnings of this August outbreak that vaccine is the only answer (and indeed long before).
Initially lack of supply holding us back, and now the reluctant anti vaxxers.
At the latest everyone should have had the chance to be double jabbed by the end of month, and at the v latest we should be out L3 even in Auckland by the then.
Across in NSW they have reached the first double jab target they set (70%) and begin opening on Monday, with a further target and dates set for the next move.
Ditto Victoria, roadmaps!

Whatever, it sounds like it wasn’t a contactless delivery! just like the other earlier cases last weekend that jumped the Auckland border to Raglan, and East Hamilton and further places since.

The real challenge to vaccine uptake isn't hesitancy its equal access to Maori and Pacific people, and inequities in the health care system.
Remember, we're not safe until we're all safe.

Re: Coronavirus
I'm currently in the UK. Listening to the radio yesterday and the person interviewed was saying that the majority of people in hospital with Covid are unvaccinated. There's a high number of infections amongst school children where I am in the North-west of England.
Life is going on here fairly normally. There are shortages of some foods and goods in the supermarket, no-one will starve though!
Some folk wear masks, others don't.

Definitely a losing battle now, as we reach a new high (I think first we've gone above 50 in a while) with five dozen and heading towards the 100 I had thought we'd have within the coming week.
There's a good article about Singapore on Stuff today which explains a lot and gives a good idea of what we might expect.

Yes. I read that Singapore article and thought of NZ.

Good to see the vaccination first dose number heading upwards again over the last few days. Although not welcome there's nothing like a bit of progress to push people to get off the sofa.

Singapore has re-introduced a range of restrictions to dampen the spread of Covid-19 and
there are 1,613 patients currently warded in hospital. Most of them well and under observation, said MOH. Among them are 292 patients who require oxygen supplementation and 41 in intensive care.
I wonder if New Zealand and some states in Australia will introduce the same restrictions?

Re: Coronavirus
Given the Prime Ministers comments it seems like restrictions may be around for a very long time. The governments slogan in the last election was "Let's keep moving" but it seems New Zealand's reopening has now ground to a abrupt halt.
What's annoying is that all the people commenting that our freedoms would be taken from is if we submitted to lockdowns are being proven correct.

It has nothing to do with the lockdowns and everything to do with Arden.
The saddest thing is, even with the govt in this sad and sorry state, National have nothing to offer as realistic competition.
