Re: Coronavirus
I nearly replied earlier to ask if we should get excited that someone on TV in the USA has mentioned New Zealand - it will probably be on the six o'clock news.
It is on the 6 o'clock news.

Re: Coronavirus
Not sure why he bothered, most Americans couldn't point to NZ on a map let alone care what happens here

Trump saying New Zealand not once but twice in the same sentence is good cause to give everyone the day off

Re: Coronavirus
I do take some issue with the Prime Ministers comments about the 102 day without community transmission. It is now a matter of record that it was present and spreading undetected. This is an election year but I don't think we can allow rhetoric to displace facts.

Re: Coronavirus
What record ? I haven't seen anything
I believe it was here for the majority of the 102 days. It reappeared due to a breach in security / protocol at an isolation facility and has spread from there. Had it been present for the majority of the 102 days, or had never gone away as some are suggesting. We would have seen positive cases far earlier, or they would never have gone away.
or have I missed something ??

Re: Coronavirus
Well given the cases in the new 'cluster' trace back to 31st July, the 102 days without community transmission muist have been at least a few days short of 102days, and probably magic 100 not reached.
Now the exteme unlikely scenario it came in on frozen food at the storage works has been discounted, that does leave iso hotels, airport/ports and airline or seafreight ship staff. Either way a failure somewhere, that will occur again, and shutting Auckland own again (Auckland because the metrics suggests it would likelyt be Auckland again) for another min of two weeks seems to the plan a, plan b and plan c.

I'm sure in the future we'll hear stories of how the supercity fought the virus single handedly

Hopefully it'll cover the cost of filling in that giant hole they've been digging for 5 years now they've halted the rail extension

Re: Coronavirus
Cases aren't tailing off much yet. I'd give reasonable odds that they'll extend again.
Also no index case has been located yet as far as I'm aware.

Seriously though, whoever does the speech writing, can we make the initial disclosure more succinct? The preamble is becoming a preramble, all most of us want is an executive summary.
