Same mistake twice? I don't think we can blame us Aucklanders for the first round of coranavirus spread!

This new outbreak, can only hope it's controlled, as otherwise we'll soon be in to a Melbourne/Victoria like second coming. If Auckland's in Level 3, only sensible that rest of the country in level 2, as there's that much movement from the country's biggest city.

Whatever I would strongkly suspect there's zero chance of the 3 day lockdown not being extended on friday The 3 days the preparation to give the experts the chance to chip in and recommend 3-4 week lockdown 5 to 6 dozen cases out there

No doubt that we will remain at level 3 for some time - I thought it seemed a bit odd that they only went for 3 day, but I assume this gives them an opportunity to decide whether level 4 is needed.

I would think that, unless they can get the whole chain of transmission, it's likely Auckland will go back to level 4 again.

The key question is what the original source was. If it did come from within a quarantine centre we'll have to reform the process (again).

I would suspectit's inevitable it will be linked to quarantine hotel, or workers at airport, airline staff etc., unless it's being spreading only amongst symptomatic people for last 100 or so days.
But yes, inevtiable we'll have similar cases, and question whether we'll be able to have lockdown every couple of months, for a couple of cases.

As to level 4 being necessary, level 3 perfectly capable of bringing things under control again, if that's the policy. Australia managed to control things in all their 6 states first time around with less than a level 3 NZ style lockdown. Only in last month and half have things gone mad in Melbourne/Victoria.

13 Community cases today. Origin is still unknown so there will be more out there in the community. All geographically constrained to Auckland.

rumour flying around from a few different sources is one of the initial four breached isolation rules and broke INTO one of the facilities.

It's just another example of how badly the govt has handled the whole isolation process. They really couldn't have got it more wrong if they'd tried. Still at least we'll all be blessed with the supreme leaders stupid, self righteous mug plastered across our screens every day as she bleats away to her sheeple

Hopefully that's true, if the chain is that short we can soon resume business as usual. I feared that we might still be two steps behind the virus.

Either way there will be immense scrutiny put upon the security arrangements around isolation units.

Fortunately this time it's feeling like familiar territory and seems most people just abandoned their offices asap yesterday and quickly reverted back to working from home. There seems to be a lot less panic buying in the supermarkets because they put immediate restrictions on the quantity of items, like flour and pasta, that you can buy at one time. I guess a lot of people still had more than enough stuff leftover from their previous panic buying sprees but we seem pretty well placed with supplies of masks and hand sanitiser still available in shops.

With 14 new cases today I think inevitable we'll be stepping up a notch to Level 4 tomorrow.

Well the magpies seemed to have raided my local supermarket shelves for the flour again when I dropped by last night, and in earlier in the morning the carpark looked chokka!

But yeah, it seems prretty certain lockdown will be extended tomorrow. Again though I don't see the reason to goto level 4 and totally cripple things again. Level 3 is restrictive enough, still the bubbles and 2 metre isolation. Australia were able to control things in the first place with a less than NZ level 3 lockdown level.

The problem is though, even if say this brought under control in best case 2-3 weeks, can we really afford to be having level 3 lockdowns every 2 or 3 months in Auckland? There has to be another alternative.

Well seems almost inevitable that it has to be a quarantine breach, Winston Peters on Aussie ABC interview new cases linked to quarantine breach

Well hopefully at least those politicians sneering across at Mellbourne and praising themselves might quieten down.

Every cloud has a silver lining; I guess some people's dreams will have come true with all the JAFAs locked in Auckland for the next two weeks.

Local KFC was going gangbusters with a queue half a mile along the road.

Well sure, 2 weeks level 3 lockdown followed by another 3 weeks of level 2 may well quell things, but do we do the same in November, then February?

It's just good luck we weren't in this place end of June, or last month, there's been numerous quarantine hotel failures, and we know 2/3 of staff helping in quarantine hadn't a corona virus test.
