Cook Strait Ferry
Hello all
Just wondering if anyone has any preference for which ferry they take. Interislander or Bluebridge?
Cheers

I would say for sailing through the sounds, the Interislander ferries have better viewing options... and slightly better inside comfort...

If you can book on the Kaitaki. Best ship in the the fleet.
Although the Bluebridge ferry has a certain, faded glamour charm.
Bring food and beer/wine if you can.

We went on the Interislander - Kaitaki - we liked the conservatory lounge area with the big windows.
Funny thing though - the Kaitaki is the old Pride of Cherbourg which we have been on sailing to France - and the lifebuoys had 'Kaitaki Portsmouth' on them (my hometown is Portsmouth!) Funny to see the ship on the other side of the world!

Re: Cook Strait Ferry
I've only travelled on the Interislander ferries. Mainly due to timing and price at the time. Seemed no different from a Channel or North Sea crossing in terms of facilities [to be expected given the above post!]
Luckily I've only had one rough crossing, a man threw up in the bin right next to me that did nothing to help the increasing worry that I was about to see that sandwich again
If the weather is good, the journey through the Sounds is fantastic!

Hope you made it ok on the Ferry. Not the best day to be travelling.
Interislander has been cancelled until Sunday!

Re: Cook Strait Ferry
The Kaitaki may end up being out of service for a couple days as the storm hitting Welly has actually broken the ferry free from its moorings. It's moored in the harbour for now. Hopefully, it's not too damaged.
Best of luck to all Wellingtonians tonight!

Seconded, thought it was rough in Christchurch today but hearing of 140-200kph gusts up in Wellington, quite a large power outage, the airport closure and ferry situation I do feel for them tonight.

Re: Cook Strait Ferry
I read 20,000 homes without power? That's a lot. We get bad storms here in North East England but 200km/h? Not that bad!

We have travelled on both and preferred the Pride of Cherbourg as we knew it well from travelling to France!!
The Bluebridge we went on was quite a lot smaller and is more catered for trucks
