Yep, get rid of the kids for the week... grandparents? Friends? Borstal??
The move will be stressful enough for the kids without them feeling that part of "their belongings" are being left behind. We left our kids at the daycare centre - far easier.

We had a car boot sale and told the kids that whatever of their belongings they sold they got to keep the money - it worked! We also chucked out loads when they weren't around and they didn't notice and they gave some things to friends and cousins.
It will all work out at the other end!

We buried stuff in the bottom of skips, sorted it when they were at school, in bed, on the loo and even sent them to the postbox to get them out the way.
The actual week of the container been loaded, they went to Nan & Grandads which both sides loved and by the time we left, I think the grandparents were grateful for the rest

Don't forget your local charity shops, we gave them enough stuff to keep them going for a year

I sent my two little dears to grandparents for the day, filled the wheelie bin, and sent two bin liners to charity shops. They haven't missed anything yet
