Default Company Car Tax

Hi, is there Benefit In Kind tax similar to the UK in NZ for employees who have company cars for personal use as well as business use or does the employer just pay a fringe benefit tax?

No there is not, the employer pays Fringe Benefit Tax on vehicles that are allowed to be taken home at night. Few people have dedicated company cars and companies generally have a pool system for this reason and even if you are fortunate to have a comapny vehicle there are generally strict rules around it's use, such as it having to be returned whilst you are on leave and that you can't use it at weekends or for personal use.

I've had a co. car and fuel card and not paid a dime or had any restrictions but I was lucky. If I was going away on holiday I was expected to pay fuel for that but otherwise co. covered fuel costs for commuting. Didn't pay much salary though.
Now I'm self-employed, started paying FBT but the accountant sorted that out pretty quickly and the whole thing is lost in the accounts somewhere now.

I have a 3rd interview tomorrow and we are actively discussing terms but I am not counting my chickens yet as I know that the first job offer is the hardest to get especially as I am only available for Skype interviews from the UK this year (as I have used all my holidays up at work!) If I am luckly enough to get the job I think they have made a fair offer given the tax situation for benefits for employees. Not paying tax on a company car available for private use and fuel sounds fantastic so fingers crossed. Thanks for all of your replies.
