you can rent a city centre parking space for about $50 a week,
dont know how that compares to just paying for parking on a daily basis

I don't know if it would meet all your requirements but you could consider Waiheke Island. Commute by ferry!

I would love to come into work every morn on the ferry but it just sounds like a load of hassle Jan would be in the CBD but my work is everywhere so i need a motor

I lived in a small apartment near Takapuna and regularly got the ferry from Bayswater into the CBD.
While the Bayswater ferry service isn't as frequent as the Devonport service, it was much nicer being less busy and with a better onward bus service that worked for me!
