Community Nursing

Can anyone out there give an insight to the community nursing setup in NZ? Are there the same divisions as UK? e.g District/School/Health Visitor & Practice. Also, which organisations are responsible for providing community health care and finally, anyone know what the pay scales are for this area of nursing?

As always your thoughts & opinions valued

I visited the community nurses whilst in NZ in Feb. I now have a job in Blenheim as a clinical educator for community. I work as a practice educator here in UK (CPT) and the systems seem very similar. Fairly advanced with enhanced clinical skills (IV therapy etc), The community comes under the District Health Board umbrella and the jobs for DN will be advertised on these sites. Pay scale depends if you are going in on staff nurse type level or team leader. I have offer of post as senior Nurse level 4 this will be approx $67.000 starting. pay pro rata. Community Nursing is a career I love here and I think NZ offers many opportunities within this area but the jobs are like gold dust!
Good luck to you :)

Worked in a Primary Care Centre in Hawkes Bay. Never actually caught site of a District Nurse in almost 2 years. They work throught the Health Authority Service rather than primary care, as in the UK.

However if patients had chronic wounds etc we would quickly refer them on to the DNs as the patient did not have to pay unlie if they visited their GP/PN.
