There are an extra three weeks of daylight saving this year. It started one week earlier and will end two weeks later.

Daylight Saving commenced on Sunday 30 September 2007.
Daylight Saving ends on Sunday 6 April 2008
It begins again on Sunday 28 September 2008

I don't think that things have changed so much in the UK & Ireland since I've been away that winter mornings are bright before 7am (I believe it was closer to 8am). The lovely thing about here is that you go to work in daylight and when you leave it's still daylight - assuming you leave work at 5/5.30pm.
