Default Clive James NZ tour

Did anyone go and see it?

I've just come back from the Wellington one....it was a bit rubbish to be honest although, as I expected, the NZ audience seemed pretty easily pleased...

Anyone see it in Auckland?

no but I saw him on the TV the other night - TV1 as I recall, he is a bit of a character, and is he really a letcherous old git??

Have no idea what he's like in person but his stage show wasn't that great.

Not terrible...but he's better on TV.

And he makes out he's a great socialist but the mask keeps slipping. Mentioned that Lady Di was his friend...and that 'they' (i.e. Aborigines) shouldn't be allowed to drink, and how great Reagan was as a president...

Hmmm.... but again, I liked him on TV and made a mistake seeing him live.

Yes...

also...a lot of his act was basically him complaining about the dumbing down of popular culture...

but didn't he start it in the 1970's by being the Cambridge PhD student who wrote all the TV columns about watching 'Dallas' and 'Dynasty'?

To be honest, the last 30 minutes was like the 'Irishman' episode of Alan Partridge when Alan does a show in the hotel..

I had the same feeling about the Police but not sure whether we are going to be nearer AKL or Wellie come Jan so dithered too much now.
