Went to our Citizenship ceremony yesterday, there were 518 of us from 65 different countries. It was great and I am proud to call myself a New Zealand citizen. I know it is not everyones cup of tea, but we had a blast

It is five years and 17 days since we migrated to New Zealand and although we have had our ups and downs during this time, this was definately an up for us.

How did you manage to have your paperwork processed and go to a ceremony only 17 days after being here 5 years? Please tell us your secret!
We were told we couldn't submit the application till the 5 years had passed. Then most people on this thread have taken 3-6 months to get citizenship.

This. I like the National Anthem, but the 'God defend' bit puts me off, I don't believe in god. I'm not a good singer, so guess I could use that as my excuse ;)

It took about 4 weeks for the paperwork and then about 6 weeks waiting for the next ceremony.
I am really looking forward to the ceremony and becoming a Real Kiwi.

Gill and Rob

Congrats to you all  Are you still nursing? :)

Cheers - you do not actually have to be in NZ for a full year (for the 5th year) as long as you have been in the country for something like 260 days. You can check whether you meet the criteria by going to http://www.dia.govt.nz/web/cctool.ns...nship?OpenForm Hope this helps

Yes quite a large celebration we had to clap for each person, so sore hands at the end of it. Plus we had to sing happy birthday to three candidates.

Definately needed a drink afterwards ;)
