Where does that wind pick up so much warmth ? Switched off all heating and open doors windows and it's still warm and 19.30 in the evening.....Is that wind a usual occurence ?

Thanks for that Matelot... I was wondering if it was a local phenomena. So the Canterbury arch picks up on a hot summers day and we all roast... So is this the condition that can cause some very high recorded temperatures out on the plains ?

Gloucester St and Durham St North now open in CBD.
Saturday night went down to -5c, after the AB's v Ireland match, first international in ChCh for 680 days.

Don't worry too much about Chch weather Stacey it is nothing like UK winters never mind Northern UK climes. Christchurch runs without road salt...that should say it all really. To get a frost here you need clear skies so usually the sun gets up and very quickly no frost or ice. There haven't been many days since we arrived where we went without seeing a bit of blue nothing like the never ending grey....Even with overcast skies here the amount of daylight is good no dark dark days.....
Certainly since we have been in Chch we have seen more sun than the last 5 winters we had (or didn't have) before leaving...and by all accounts this year hasn't been much better!

Storms.. I agree about the winter sun in CHC. I had some of the most pleasant winter days where you are! Hard frost at night, full sun with deep blue sky and temperatures up to 14-15C by noon! Don't be fooled by the fact they don't use salt. There's many an accident on those winter mornings due to the lack of it! I expect you will become aquainted with the Nor'easter, a very lazy wind which just goes straight through you! Coupled with the poor insulation in many of the houses and the reluctance for Christchurch residents to switch on their central heating, I'd say I was more affected by the winters in CHC than Sussex. Taking everything into account though, I'd prefer to be still living in Halswell!

All perfectly spot on Matelot... Though I have found cold with the sun out not so bad, NZ house open the windows in winter to warm the place up....., winters in the UK just stay indoors..., grey skies......that hurts...depressing. When you coming back?
Your posts show you know Chch and Burnside well so what's your story to tell are you in Sussex?
