Re: The Christchurch thread
Probably, I'm going to be spending most of my time around there to start with.

If your working there, look at Avonhead, Yaldhurst, Hornby and Hei Hei
Very close to the airport business park and a very easy commute away from the traffic
Also, much more reasonable in the rent prices I think

It has been POURING it down in Timaru all day. I think the Pacific is mounting an invasion.

Re: The Christchurch thread
Does anyone here have any recommendations (or where to avoid) for car dealers in Christchurch? I've just started looking around to get an idea of prices for station wagons. How easy was it to get finance as a new arrival?

Just noticed this, cheers. We've also been having a look at Rangiora as we know a few people who have lived there and said its a really nice place for young children.

We're looking at Rangiora. We like the fact that is not far from the beach and not too far from the mountains. We also liked the feel of the high street. Our children are 10 and 13 so the older one would go to Rangiora High.

Re: The Christchurch thread
Hi all,
just had a friend tell me that chch has become quite a rough place to live, he lives in qt and is hearing it from his mates in chch.
Is there any truth to this?
I'm coming over in a couple of months and am now worried that I have made a mistake with chch.

Re: The Christchurch thread
Do you mean rough - violence or not a nice place to live?

I was in Christchurch again on Thursday and I'm going to say it. I like the place, it has such a bigger feeling than Dunedin. I'm sure there's a lot of negative things about living there but I do enjoy visiting the place.

Re: The Christchurch thread
Rough as in violent.
He mentioned some people getting attacked, tool thefts etc. Also said that it's not safe to walk at night on your own as there's been quite a lot of random attacks. Hearing all this gives me a bad picture.
But, is it really like that?

Re: The Christchurch thread
I've definitely read about more assaults in the last few months, but overall compare Christchurch to a similar sized city such as Leeds and we have much less aggro. Personally I feel more safe here than the UK, but I still wouldn't fancy walking around some areas late at night on my own.

Re: The Christchurch thread
There has been more reports of crime but I wouldn't let it put you off. It's not really a violent city. Linwood, Richmond, Aranui etc have characters but the assaults/violence don't really take place until the late hours -after alcohol is consumed
There's plenty of debate going on about alcohol in Christchurch. All because of these lightweight pansies - set on them with no alcohol and they'd run to their mummies faster than the Roadrunner. Don't let it put you off, it's not like Hackney or Edmonton

Re: The Christchurch thread
thanks guys, very good to hear. You've both put my mind at ease.
You mention Linwood, Richmond and Aranui, any others that I should avoid as we are looking for rentals at the mo?
