Good luck . Hope it works out for you. However, a word to the wise. Companies are taking on staff before they have been awarded the contract for the work to be done. People have ended up leaving Christchurch empty handed because the job did not materialise.
I've just done a search on the last 10 pages of discussion threads looking for the one by a guy, can't remember his name so that doesn't help, who was working in his job in Christchurch until he got made redundant in August with very little notice. Don't know what industry, don't know the circumstances of his offer or notice period.
Other than that you will have champagne and roses all the way.

If you gain a job offer here in NZ, then you will apply for a temporary work visa. That visa will last the length stated on the contract of employment.
If the occupation isn't seen as being in shortage here in NZ, then the NZ employer has to prove there is no NZ resident or citizen that could do that work unless the employer is accredited with NZ immigration
If the job contract finishes then, yes, you will need another job offer that NZ immigration will approve to enable you to remain in the country.
One doesn't get 'sponsored ' as such. If you get the job offer it will be up to you to do the paperwork.
What is your occupation please?
Are you thinking of coming for just a couple of years or hoping to try for long term.
We may be able to give you a few pointers if we know a little more.

Re: Christchurch rebuild
I saw in the paper this morning they are advising the public to wear dustmasks because of dust from the increasing demolition work. But there was a medical advisor saying that it wasn't hazardous to health, so why tell people to wear them? If I were there I'd be worried about asbestos fibres, in the past that stuff was in such widespread use. Is anyone testing for it?
http://www.level.org.nz/health-and-s...ants/asbestos/
Asbestos-based products were widely used in construction from the 1920s to the mid-1980s. Commonly used products that contained asbestos included roof tiles, wall claddings, vinyl floor coverings, sprayed fire protection, decorative ceilings, roofing membranes, adhesives and paints.

Saltire - please be wary of Immigration Advisors, most of the paperwork can be done by yourself if the jobs are there and even if you do employ an advisor you will still have to do the donkey work yourself all they do is collate it and you have the privilege of paying them thousands.
Please look at the Official Immigration site and see what visa you would require and what points you gain. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/

Hi am a council roadworker thats my occupation chap from skills in demand stand at going down under live show said he could get me out in 6 months if i was interested they got my cv ,going out temp for say 3 years a massive risk long term might be best ,as long as the work there, you can renew your 3 year visa
Do you manage a team of road-workers at all?
Why is it a massive risk ?
Also, may I ask your age & current commitments . Not being nosey but I want to explore what real options you have as I/ we of BE see it. Please be aware I am just another BE poster and user here although we have been here nearly 9 years and husband is a tradesman.
We need Neil. He is boots on ground.

Re: Christchurch rebuild
From observing the 4 workmen resurfacing the pavement in front of our house for the last 4 days, the main skills required are being able to lean on a shovel or nearby wall for at least 5 hours a day with one hand, while skillfully preparing & smoking a rollup with the other

It's the NZ way Saltaire.
It is 2 men with the stop/go signs where we are. No automatic signals here.
Hhmm. I'm not sure you would be able to remain in NZ permanently with that occupation.
You may well be able to come out for a fewyears though, if you can find an employer who is able & allowed to offer you work. That would most likely be an NZIS accredited employer.
If you are happy to come out for a few years and know that you most like will not be able to stay forever , then what we need is the list of contractors who may be able to take you on.

What is a NZIS accredited employer how does there visa work , too much to give up if your just a temp ie hospital dentist bills i would expect you would have to pay for these so basically not a chance making it fulltime if you like the country
