Christchurch as a place to live?
 

Hi Guys..

Christchurch seems to a good place to look for I.T. work.

What's it like to live there?

Positive and Negative responses most welcome in order to obtain a fair and balanced perspective

chch i find a busy city (nz standards)

it's got everything a person could want and need

the city i find very child orientated with lots of activities laid on during holiday times

i love seeing all the joggers and walkers around hagley park and believe me there's loads

For teenagers it's got everything they need

the bus system is great, reliable and good price

that's my opinion anyway

any questions just ask and i'll try and answer for you although only been here 9 weeks myself

i like it here. I can see that if you want the biggest shops and the lastest designer fashions you might get a bit fed up. My only main gripes are:
Most bands seem to bypass here and play on the north island (although we are off to see Queens of the stone age and Smashing Pumpkins on monday! :thumbsup:), and the lack of a decent rock club!

Apart from that it's what you make it. Don't really have any experience of wellington so can't comment but of the other cities on the islands it's the best one we found!

Got everything me and the kids need and nothing that a lotto win wouldn't fix..:D

I like Chch. We lived there for the first 18 months. We ended up moving just north to Rangiora. However, we liked it in the city and find it offers benefits beyond its size as it is the main city in these parts. We like the proximity to all the activities we do.

We have lived in Chc since Jan 07.

Good;
The weather dry and not to hot.
Good schools, not academically but personal development yes.
Loads of activities for kids. Footy, Rugby , Cricket etc.
Not to much traffic.
Plenty of jobs not so much in IT though, Welly and Auk would be better.
Quiet beaches, if that is what floats your boat.

Bad
Wages, work ethic (to hard for my liking)
So called boy racers, just hooligans and criminals really.
Lots of the inner city looks pretty rough.
Also the Kiwi mentality ( racist, attitude to change)

Loads more but I will stop there.
