Default child passport

I know questions have been asked before and I have checked out the "how to fill in" on the passport website and still confused.

Renewal passport for 12yr old
"was the child registered as a British citizen. British Dependend/Overseas Territories citizen, British Overseas citizen, British subject or British protected person ? Yes or No

If no we go on to next section
If yes then we have to provide citizenship documents.

Daughter was born in UK so I think we put No and move on

but OH has made me doubt it and says we yes and birth certificate details???

anyone know as been looking at it for the last 2 days and just more confused.

Your daughter was born in the UK???

Did you register her birth in the UK?

If so she is a UK citizen so you tick yes and provide the birth certificate details

Why would you put 'no' if she was born and registered in the UK?

I'm wondering if it's confusing cos it then asks for a citizenship certificate number on the form? I would be a bit stumped by that too but am assuming they mean birth certificate?

I agree. The wording makes it confusing.

The birth cert number should do the trick.

Except that for those born in 1983 or later, a U.K. birth certificate is not enough in itself to show British citizenship. It is also necessary to show that one parent was a British citizen or permanent resident at the time of the birth.

Proof of citizenship is not usually demanded for straightforward renewals, however you should have this information if it is ever needed later on. For example, if passport was lost it would be required to obtain a new one.

Was your child was born in the UK to British parents? If so then the answer is 'No' as your child would have been automatically British at birth.

Registration with the Home Office is for children who weren't automatically British at birth but had a claim based on several different scenarios that would allow them to acquire British citizenship at the discretion of the Home Secretary.

Then your daughter is British at birth; no registration possible.
