Cheese!
Cheese in NZ
Is there a good selection? Can you get English cheeses or if not are there any varieties that are similar? My favourite is a really mature Cheddar  |

Re: Cheese!
Good selection then
Excellent, some new cheeses to try, Taupo and Egmont. Was worried I may miss the variety in the UK. I love getting some nice bread or crackers, a few different cheeses, some wine and just sitting on the sofa getting fat  |

Re: Cheese!
And going off at a tangent as usual: what's 'tasty cheese' all about??:confused:
Do we need to be told it's tasty? Can't we make our own minds up??:rofl: |

Re: Cheese!
Cheese us really expensive here, especially if, like us, you enjoy a vintage cheddar. You'll pay more for it than the run-of-the-mill type, but it's worth it.
The NZ versions of European cheeses tend to be rather poor in flavour and not comparable to the originals, although they'll still be expensive. The vintage with the black label is good. At Xmas I was able to get original French cheese in the supermarkets. |
Re: Cheese!
Considering we are a huge dairy farming country (i used to be a dairy farmer) I cannot believe the huge jump in price of cheese in New Zealand in the last few weeks its almost doubled in price......Of course it wont have anything to do with the fact that the average dairy farmer in NZ yearly earnings are 800k plus would it lol.................................
Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me lol....:) One comment i have to make is that you dont seem to see the blocks of cheese here in nz supermarkets like in the UK like wher you can have the ammount you want cut off at the deli in NZ we seem to have just mostly the pre-packaged stuff...I love looking at all the different colours of cheeses in the UK they are nice and bright...................tasty cheese i believe is called that because it is matured the longest and therefore has a definate stronger taste but i did a google search and here you are for those cheese lovers its all explained here... http://www.opencountry.co.nz/index.php?section_id=3 Have a great day! |
Re: Cheese!
Guess I will just have to try different ones and find some I like, maybe get some expensive stuff every now and again to satisfy the craving :o
 Surely I must have more important things to worry about than the availability of cheese? Or maybe I'm on the first step towards cheese addiction, I've heard it's worse than heroin...:eek::rofl: |
Re: Cheese!
Moore Wilsons often has a great selection of cheeses. Nice big blocks of cheese :)
