Yesterday I visited the GP for the first time since arriving in NZ last September. It was a good experience apart from when it came to the bill .......... $80 ! ! ! ! !
After a bit of discussion with the receptionist she realised that I should have paid the charge as a registered patient so this was reduced to the standard charge of $45 for residents.

My question to anyone out there is what charges do people generally pay for a GP visit ? Just to give a comparison of fees. I live in Auckland so am aware that I may pay a bit more but $45 seems a bit steep.

I paid $76 last week as our funding won't start til July. think when we're funded its going to be about half that

Whilst the UK health service had/has problems, it was still a health service. Here, pah!

Our charges are $46 per visit, even if you get called back as a follow up $46 every time you put your arse on their seats

A few years ago I had a bit of a health concern, and at that time had no income, no WINZ support, and no support from the "health service" in NZ (when I told them that I couldn't afford the doctors fee). Their answer; no follow up, no call to see why I stopped going to the doctors - nothing - nada - just total silence. The cost of compassion(?) $46, haven't got it, then no compassion!

Oh yes NZ is such a healthy place - just look at the low numbers using the 'health service' Why then don't they publish the figures for those who can't afford to go to the doctors!

People who are on benefits or low to what is called 'middle' income are entitled to CSC cards With one of those they pay less.

Here is a link to the Auckland DHB and all of the GPs in there area listing all of the fees for the different GPS. If you search on your web or go to your local PHO website you can access the fees for all of your GPs in your area. These fees are for registered patients as you can see there is a quite a range in costs and this is true right across the country.
