Changing the NZ flag?
So what does everyone think about the proposal to change the NZ flag? Does anyone from the British expat community prefer the Union Flag in the corner of New Zealand's flag? Or should the flag be the silver fern on a black background? Or something else?

If theyre going to change it then anything but black. Its good for sporting teams because it portrays dominance but for a national flag it signifies doom and tragedy. The southern cross on a blue backpround would go ok I think, being a nation of immigrants who came out on boats. The blue being the ocean and the southern cross being the navigation, especially for Maori. In any case it wont happen. The last poll I read, only 28 per cent want a change.

I'd change it to the Chinese national flag but with a different colour
If Mr Key and co get their way, we'll be dominated by them more than Australia is.
Lets get into bed with them further by changing the flag to there's.

Until yesterdays interest rate hike, I was going to suggest a great big Dollar sign as we seem to be doing better than most

as stated on another thread:
john key and his corrupt mates (far more corrupt than they are in the uk) have already changed the flag, they have just forgotten about it. Its a big FOR SALE sign as used by auckland real estate agents.
personally, anything that involves removing the flag of freedom and progress (union jack) is backwards. If NZ wants to be on a slide into backwardity, good for it.

complete waste of time and money. once they've spent all this money on finding out if people want to change will they then put their hands in our pockets to ask what they should put on it?
if they have all this "spare" money it should go to those who need it.

Re: Changing the NZ flag?
A friend of my step daughter did this, I think its perfect.
I have recently read that the flag we have now is left over from the very early 1900's when we came very close to being a state of stalya.
Luckiy the kiwis went off the idea but we got lumbered with their crappy flag
or very similar but not quite as stylized

Re: Changing the NZ flag?
but you just know whatever gets chosen (if its changed) is going to be either covered in Maori symbols or disowned by them.
The current Maori flag is rubbish but they will claim its the only real NZ flag and will be on TV wailing about all their nonsense again.

The way things are going we may be a state of Australia before long. The latest poll by the Herald showed a surprising drop in resistance to the idea.
