Hi there, my husband has been offered the chance to work in Hamilton on an 18 month secondment. I've been trying to find out lots about the place but keep coming up with stuff about crime there. Does anyone live in Hamilton who could tell me what it's like for real? Thank you.

you can Goggle the crime statistics for the Waikato Region which takes in Hamilton but its just going to give you numbers and how can you tell if thats a good number or a bad number unless you have a like for like comparison of somewhere else, which if you have the time and inclination you could probably do if you know a place like Hamilton elsewhere.

Everywhere has crime its something you cannot avoid where there are people.

Hopefully some of the Hamilton residents will be along to give you their honest opinion and places best to be looking at moving to

Thank you, it would be good to know something about schools too. I'm not too bothered about statistics, just wanting to find out what it's actually like for familiies there.

Hamilton is more like a large market town than a city. It is a bit leary in town centre at the weekend but other than that, seems fine. Crime occurs everywhere but I am not aware of hamilton having a particularly significant problem! As with everywhere else most crime is unevenly distributed. Plenty of affluent suburbs in hams. Do you need primary or high schools?

I like Hamilton as a city. Everywhere has its issues, but on the whole its fine.

If living in Hamilton doesn't appeal to you have a look at Te Awamutu or Cambridge.
Cambridge is lovely ( I live there) and is only a 15 minute easy commute to Hamilton.
Te Awamutu is similar,slightly further away but still an easy drive in the morning

I am looking to live in Te Awamutu but work in Hamilton. Rural, quiet living is what we like as a family, so we really don't fancy being in a city to live. Not there yet mind, so can't really comment on things other than from a prospective place to live

We've decided to pass on the chance to live in Hamilton, not just because of crime but because we've also got the chance of another position over here with better benefits. Thanks but no thanks.

Mind you crime is rife in T.A! I saw a couple of kids riding bikes without helmets on when I was there the other day.

Shocking isn't it!! 8000 people were fined in NZ last year for not wearing a helmet. What's the country coming to.

Actually, even though I am joking, I'm sort of serious because I think it infringes on my civil liberties. But that should be another thread.

I guess you meet a much nicer class of thievin, scum and chavs over there nowadays

I live in central Auckland and would walk around on my own at 3am and wouldn't be worried yet I wouldn't walk around Blackpool town centre at any time of night on my own!
