Default Cats from UK - how long do they stay in!!

Our cats have arrived from the UK and before we came out we were told to keep them in for at least 6 weeks. When we picked them up from Auckland airport they said to keep them in for a few days

Can anyone with a cat advise how long you kept yours in before introducing it/them to the great outdoors? The eldest is 10 and the younger one 2. Its great to have them here but they sit looking out the window and it makes me feel awful

We kept ours in for a few weeks . More to get them used to exactly where they lived inside first , so they knew how to bolt back home if need be.

Can't speak for cats but our dog was house quarranteened for precisely 0 days. Supposed to be kept in for a week but that was never going to happen after being in a box for a few days.

Thanks, I'd hate to let them out too soon - oh well I'll just have to be the awful one who keeps them locked in

Dogs are so much easier (although much more expensive to fly out). At least with a dog it will come back when called but cats love to explore and jump over fences I know what you mean about being in a box for a few days, they could not wait to get out. Hope your dog coped with the journey ok. Our cats were not at all tired, we could not believe they had just flown half way around the world.

I know it's not the same, but when we got our cat from the rescue centre they said a month so they can get used to the house and stuff first.

It's exactly the same, like you say they have to get used to the house and smells etc so when they go out they know where to come back.

When ours arrived we were in a rental, kept her in for about ten days. Did the same when we bought our house, and both times she'd decided that she knew where she lives. On her first outs, we had a collar on her with our number, but she basically did small walkabouts til she found her limits, and has been fine since.
All the cats need to know is where they feel safe.
