Default Catch 22

So I've jumped through all of the nursing council's hoops to get registration only to hit the next hurdle - can't get a job without a visa, can't get a visa without a job.

Has anyone else found themselves in this sticky situation and managed to find a solution?

As Robbie says, you need to stsrt talking to employers who can offer you a job on condition of a visa, however, be careful, a lot of these will include a clause where you have to stay with the company for X amount of years, which, is fair enough as they are investing in your visa etc, but there's always the chance you might not like the job.

Also, have you tried looking outside Auckland? You can get half the points you need (80) just for looking outside AKL.

Also, try employment agencies in your field.

Feedback is generally the same, my CV is strong but I'm still in the uk. I guess I just keep trying.

The work to residency visa I think should only take 25 days to process. That's not too long for a potential employer to wait if you have a strong CV.

now you have your registration sorted you have done one of the hard things. Lots of employers do not understand that its job then visa.

You should be applying to DHB's and seeing what they have available. Where are you looking to go?

Yes . The District Health Boards are New Zealand Immigration accredited employers so will be well versed in offering positions to overseas health professionals who will need to then uplift a visa.

Hi,

I got my job offer before I applied for NZQA and registration. Once I received those back I applied for an Essential Skills visa which came back within 4 days. I'm a teacher so not sure the job market for nurses or if it's on the skills lists so you might be able to apply for a different visa. Good luck with it all!
