I cannot remember the 'exact' details but there were definitely restrictions with regards to Visa's. Our WHV visa would have meant that we would have to have paid 15% on everything.

We didn't ship our stuff until 3-4 months of being here as we knew we would have had our residency by then. So we had our stuff about 6-7 months into being here.

We didn't bother, dumped all of the vehicles as they were all salt driven/ridden

Yes , unless you want to be stung for mega $$.

Pal of ours is going back to the Uk to organise bringing out a van from there as the vans here are a bit rubbish. Cheaper for him to do that it seems and get a good/better trade van from there , than to buy here. He has looked into it all.

Thing is, how long are you planning on staying ?

From what you write he will be working as a tradie for an employer so couldn't use his van anyway.

Someone we know bought a camper van over, unfortunately has not been able to get it cleared through customs. Not entirely sure why but as already advised check with NZ AA first.
We had our car professionally cleaned and photographed the procedure left it in the car with the quote and receipt.

Be aware if your hubby has only had the van a short time (i.e. less than 12 months) you MUST pay GST of 15% of its NZ value to the government here in goods and services tax.

Regards,
You don't pay tax on the equivilent NZ list price Unless you can't provide formal proof of actual price originally paid including any shipping costs, Also you can factor in depreciation onto the value of that car now that would be liable for Tax....
My understanding (correct if I'm wrong)...
Also see this on one of the shipping websites..: http://www.carshipping.co.uk/new-zea...g-customs.html
PSS also described as much.
