Car registration / Number Plate

Have a car which i will reluctanlty sell in uk before emigrating. I have a private number plate which i would like to bring for sentimental reasons - anyone know if i can put it on a car in NZ?

I don't think you can, my BIL couldn't bring his, I think he just has to pay to keep it now for if he ever wants to use it again if he goes back to the uk.

Dos he pay a one off fee - or is it an annual thing?

I wasn't allowed to bring TW4T or SH1T,or even BO77OM. Which is crap.
