Be prepared to spend a bit more Kiwi,s run there cars into the ground it is not unusual to see a 20+ year old car as a daily driver, and when they are completely shagged and they do sell them the prices are obscene.
Good luck with your hunt you will need it

I second the view from Neil, the cars on 'Trade Me' are usually well used models with space-rocket mileages from private sellers. It may be better to look at car sales fore-courts and have some sort of guarantee. As for SIMS cards, the SKINNY mobile has proved to be okay. Prices have dropped markedly on mobile deals in last 6 months. See http://www.skinny.co.nz/

Appreciate its not "dirt cheap" but, I believe for the car and age its a good price in NZ. You go to some of the dealers in Wairau and basic Daihatsu's are starting at 8K NZD.

I got a sim from Vodafone a couple of years back, they always seem to have fairly good deals on payg. Contract prices are ridiculous for what you get.

Re: Car needed n sim card
I'm a red but my boy turned to the dark side as a nipper, I had therapy over that for years.
I had to take him along to Main Rd for a few seasons to watch em play, We used to sit in the old Gene kelly stand, him jumping up and down
watching the game and me just sat eating my pie and doing the Daily Mirror crossword and praying my car still had its wheels when we got back to it
only advice I can give on the car front is Brace yourself !!
Have a look at the ones parked up at the side of the road, you can sometimes find something there. (just a reminder seeing as your a city fan, you will have to pay for it !! )
I've got a 16 yr old Honda Accord with over 200k on it, to be fair it is a good car, never had a minutes trouble with it
apart from flat tyres caused by the shitty rough metal they put on the roads before sealing them
As for Sims, I'm with Vodafone and get pretty good coverage everywhere
Dont know if you know but you can get City TV on sky sports, dont know why you'd bother though

Car wise is there many sold by rd side ? 20 yr old car no issue for me prefer older cars. Does it cost for a pay as you go sim if just walk in shop ? Your lad has good taste :-)

Yeah theres heaps of em parked up by the roadside, where I live they all get parked on a grass verge along the road in to town.
You get all sorts on there from $30k SUV's to boats and old knackers. Trade me is probably best and you can always get an AA appraisal
for not a lot of money.
Heaps of hondas, subaru's, nissans. not a lot of European cars and you need to get a WOF (mot) every 6 months.
PAYG sims are cheap as chips mate, pick em up anywhere but mobile rates are more expensive here and if you get
a contract further down the line prepare yourself for a shock when you see how much they cost and how little you get
Oh and the good news is if you look around you can get Boddies on draught
