Car buying

Hi all, day 3 in NZ and today's job is buying cars.

I've had a search in the forum but can't find anything on this already.

What's the etiquette here - I'm assuming currently that haggling on cars would be the same as in the U.K. but wanted to check.

What is anyone else's experiences?

TIA

Yes - haggle away with a dealer, they'll swear their children are going to starve and they'll lose money, but you should get a bit off!

Depending on the age of the car, ask for a three year warranty, perhaps you want a towbar fitted free and so on.

Do you know what you want yet? We are seriously considering importing our Volvo with us as they seem to hold their value over there.

Good luck with the haggling!

Yes haggle away.
We bought a Pajero a couple of months ago in Hamilton from a dealer. They knocked $2k off the price because I refused to pay more than $10k difference with our trade in, they fitted a bluetooth phone kit and a towbar for free on top of the statutory 3 month warranty, full professional groom, tank of juice etc.
If you don't ask you won't get !

Yes, I knew what I wanted. We're also importing a camper van which is on the water now. We've got a good handle on what you need to do to import a vehicle now so feel free to pm me. We chose to sell our cars though and buy over here as our U.K. Cars were both diesel and that just didn't work out economical over here with the extra tax charges on diesel mileage

One successful day! $1500 off the price (over priced to begin with so sounds better than it was in reality) and a half price 1 year warranty. thanks all... tackling husbands car tomorrow so hopefully that will be as successful
