it's literally at the top of the "high street" so all downhill into the city - take you 5 mins to get into the city centre, 10 mins to the CBD, 10-15 mins to the harbour and waterfront. The nearest beach is probably Okahu Bay (eastern side of city) which is about 30-40 mins walk along the waterfront (nice walk), then a bit further along is Mission Bay which is full of bars and restaurants along a nice city beach - this is the next bay from Okahu and is still walkable from the city, but there are tonnes of bus routes all along the waterfront. To be honest if you go for somewhere like Karanghape Road there is no real need for a car if you're going to be relatively city based.

You'll have a great time! Lots of luck.

We want to live as central as possible in Auckland and are happy to negate size, quality for location. I am originally from the country as well, but for time being we want to be in the centre of 'it' all which is why we chose Auckland because from the sounds of it is the most *lively* city in NZ.

One day though I do have dreams of living somewhere in NZ and just living in the middle of nowhere next to a river....

How long have you been there?

Loving it all?

Hello again.... kids finally gone to sleep!!

We have been here 2 years in June, we originally said we would rent for 2 years and then decide whether to sell up in UK and buy here but it only took a year and we knew we preferred to be here rather than UK.

Although we are close to Auckland its quite rural out here... thats why I like it. We dream of having our own place with a few acres as some stage but right now isnt the right time. I keep my horse at DIY 24/7 grass livery so I dont have to do a lot and I can ride down on the beach and round the mangroves. I fell in love with Beachlands the first time I drove out this way... you know how some places just feel "right". Its a world away from where we were staying up in Auckland.

I hope you like it when you get here. Those 4 months will soon go!

48 days til i fly now!!

Now the can't wait bit has changed to annoyance because I just wan't to get on that plane.

I think my body feels the same way, me and my mates have gone a bit mad recently with the partying (could be due to football going so well now) and I think once I get to NZ am I looking forward to a different type of Socialising. One which doesn't include beer as pre-requiste.

Also looking forward to a fresh start etc.

Anyway sorry for boring you all and btt'n my own thread.

I have never lived in Auckland, but to me the centre (CBD) is fairly functional and not particularly atrtractive.

You would be best IMO to live in or near one of the more lively suburbs, such as Ponsonby, Grey Lynn, Parnell or various places on the 'Shore'.
