Candles

Sorry I am sure this subject has been done but am hopeless with the search button

Is the shipping over of all candles just a big no no  I have gazillions of them, which I will try to burn through between now & when we finally leave......But.........

I have the childrens christening candles & the candles from the girls birthday cakes :o ( I know) that I just cant bare the thought of not being able to bring over. Or worse being destroyed by MAFF

Would it be a gamble to try to bring them ?

Worry ye not. Bring them :). Just not the ones with twigs & the like stuck in them, having said that I bought one with lots of rose buds in the top which I got from the National Trust shop. I wasn't leaving that behind & I got it in :sneaky:

Hi Deb

We bought over candles no problem. I don't think Pickfords even listed them separately, they just packed them in with everything else. According to MAF you can bring in beeswax ones under certain conditions:

Refined beeswax products such as beeswax polish, candles, crayons, ear candles, firelogs, lubricants and surf wax from any country may be given a biosecurity clearance provided all of the following requirements are met:

■i. The product must be commercially prepared and packaged
■ii. The product must be manufactured into products
■iii. The product must not be foundation beeswax or any other product associated with the beekeeping industry.
7.2 Refined beeswax may be given a biosecurity clearance from any country provided the following requirement is met:

■i. The product must be accompanied by a Manufacturer’s Declaration that identifies the product and certifies that the beeswax has been heated to at least 60 degrees Celsius for 2 hours and clarified.

Re: Candles

We were told different things from each of the shippers who quoted us but they did all say no BEESWAX candles.

In the end we decided to get rid of all our candles....in fact we had a major chuck out and boy do we regret it now :(

 yeah I have the party lite (not on the pocket :frown:) ones as well.

After a bit of research, Candles that are not beeswax are made from paraffin wax, apparently the main difference is that beeswax candles do not drip. Based on that most of mine will be ok But will MAF see it that way  One packet of candles I have do say does not contain animal products.

Also going to do a big primarni shop

Hi

We bought a load of Ikea candles over, vanilla and plain tea lights. The packers didnt list them, just put them in a box. Very glad we did, cos we have had 3 power cuts in 5 months since we have been here!

:frown: the shipping company we had in yesterday said we would have to put them with our wicker stuff for declaration. Hoping the quantity of wicker baskets I have acquired :o might divert attention :sneaky:

Thanks for responses

We bought loads of candles over, 'Proper' candles and the non wax type. Scented ones, tea lights, big coloured ones, we had a box full of the things and made no declaration to them. We just loaded them with some of the kitchen gear..........
