Hi all..new to this so bear with me..
I got married here in NZ as a Permanent resident 7 yrs ago to another british ex- pat Permanent resident..Do/did we need to contact the old country to update records back there?

I got married out here in 1995 whilst on a Visitors Visa - to someone also on a Visitors Visa - we didn't have to tell anyone in particular in the UK, just show the marriage cert when you need to change names etc.

No need to tell anyone, unless you have a spouse already in the UK ( even then, sleeping dogs rule may apply).

I got married in the UK and divorced here. Couldn't give a stuff if thats an untidy set of records in the UK TBH...but you have nothing to worry about, your marriage wasn't IN the UK so won't be registered there, it is however recognised there without you having to do anything.

I was married in New Zealand a few years ago while my wife and I were still living full-time in London.

The New Zealand state keeps their own record of the marraige but I am certain that I did not have to inform anybody in Britain that it had happened.

If you have a private pension scheme back in the UK, you might want to let them know that you are married as it there might be a spouses benefit in the future. If you have life insurance, check any named beneficiary and also when you get married, you need a new will as any previous will becomes invalid on marriage.
