can we make it !!
hello my name is nikki limmer and i am 27 years old.
having recently returned from a life changing 2nd trip
to NZ i have now decided i would like to make it my
future home. ideally i am looking to fully re-locate
to NZ and gain residency as quickly as possible.
i have been a working veterinary nurse for ten years
and have been offered the chance to continue my career
in the aukland area. i have been offered a position of
head nurse with a start date of june 5th and was
wondering what the best options were for me to make
this happen.
both my partner and i were in the process of filling
in an expression of interest with a view to migrating
under the skilled migrant category when the job offer
came through. as the position is with people i have
worked for previously here in the uk i would dearly
love the job but i am worried that the full skilled
migrant process will take to long.
would it be better and faster to apply for a work
permit only and apply for residency once working full
time, as with already having a skilled job in NZ it
adds conciderable points.
my partner is 38 and is a qualified chef (immediate
skills shortage) and has also just completed a
postgrad diploma in broadcast journalism. it is not as
easy for him to win a job offer as he is not available
for interviews, but having replied adverts on-line he
has had a reply on every cv sent with interest only
failing at the availablity issue.
will he also be able to obtain a work permit whilst
here in the UK or would it be better for him to arrive
with me on a tourist visa and apply for a work permit
once he has a job offer there. in the long term we are
both looking to start an equine dentistry business in
the north island when i finish my final studies once
settled in NZ.
we are both squeaky clean on all police and health
issues and would have approx 1 million in funds to
resettle with when needed.
we both concider ourselves to be pretty sharp and
fairly clever but are finding the NZIS web site a maze
of dead ends and gratuatous overwording.
please advise
yours faithfully

Second option is to apply for a straight work permit, not sure about th elogistics of that.
Finally, you can apply for residency and wait, i dont know how long the applications are taking..
But get your police clearances etc sorted out in the meanwhile

for me its a strange one as i do not really want to have to cook, as i wish to hit the airwaves and produce radio shows. i have a great qualification but sadly the experience is not there on paper yet although i have been dj'ing in clubs for years. i am worried that if i am given a work permit it will stipulate that i have to chef for a living which i have not done for years.
still i just want to get there so anything will do for the time being.
cheers for that newkiwi and i will get on with things tomorrow.
best wishes

So if your partner gets a work permit based on a job offer, which hopefully will work out, you can do what you want, as long as its legal..
