Default Buy LCD TV here or NZ?? Audio a problem??

Hi there, Help???
We are hoping to move to NZ in 2008 and are hankering with buying a new Sony or Panasonic LCD TV before we come over. I heard that the sound might be a problem as the signal in NZ is different to the UK and really dont want to spend any dosh if there is a problem. What do you have to do to make it work?? Please help!!! Thanks alot

There are a number of previous threads about this topic.

In summary, you can get a UK TV to work in NZ, some apparently work fine directly and for others you may need to play the TV through a NZ decoder such as a VCR/DVD player or (NZ) sky decoder

Unless you're going to claim back the VAT on it I'd say have a look at the prices in NZ because you may be better off buying it there.

If you buy it in NZ at least it will have a NZ plug on it, a valid warranty, you'll be able to get a good discount for cash and not have to wait for the container to arrive before you can watch it .

Check out the websites for Harvey Norman, Noel Leemings and similar & compare with the UK prices.

Out of interest.....I've noticed that some of the TVs here now have "Blu Ray Ready" stickers on them, has that hit NZ yet? wouldn't a normal HDMI TV be ok with blu ray?

We bought three Sony flat screen tv's over and they all work.

Two are LCD's bought within the last two years and one a plamsa.

The plasma, while still watchable, got damaged in the move and is due to be replaced soon when they pay out.

The two LCD's tuned in on an NZ aerial and work exactly as they did in the UK using the auto set up function that Sony stuff has.

In terms of cost i don't think theres much in it in terms of retail outlets however the UK will certainly have cheaper prices available via online retailers.

Hi
As long as you can change the PAL setting on your tv you'll be fine brining one over from the UK,
The UK works on PAL 5.6 or somthing and NZ works on PAL 6.5.
We brought over our UK tv's and couldn't get any sound without going through either an NZ VCR or Sky
Hope this helps
