It's in Hokitika, Westland, South Island. It has a panoramic view of the sea, including the sunset into the sea one way, and a panoramic view of the southern alps the other way. It's on 1/2 acre of land which cost $10,000 5 years ago. Similar blocks in the same road are now going for $150,000 which I still think is a bargain.

Sounds like a positive experience for you....can you recommend a local builder then?

Have you got a picture of your finished home for us all to look at and drool?

Just moved into our new build- it's gorgeous. All in- section, house, driveways, services, fees, shedding, fencing, huge covered deck, etc was less than $340K. If we had more cash we'd have chosen a DVS system or similar. We've scraped frost of the car twice since moving in and had -4 temps but we've been toasty inside. It's not a flash house- but has three single bedrooms and one double with ensuite, a family bathroom, laundry and a large living area with solid Tawa floors. We have thick lush wool carpets in the bedrooms and hall, soundproof batts throughout, an eco metro fire, a beautiful kitchen and huge lovely showers. We have two enormous buried water tanks and a clever septic system that discharges almost drinking grade water out the other end.

It has been the most stressful experience of my whole life though and on top of emigrating I'd struggle to recommend it. However, we have 4 acres and live 10 mins from the sea in a stunning home.
