Brokenwood tv series

Hi,

We have just started to watch (from series 1) Brokenwood (already on to series 3) we find it a really good lighthearted “who dun it” with excellent plots, we love the scenery and the humour (in our minds) has more in common with the British sense of humour than the Aussie humour and you can clearly tell that the NZ accent is different to an Aussie accent, the scenery is lovely as well I believe it was filmed on the North Island, we watch a lot of foreign tv series and this one is our first NZ series, U can now understand why people want to visit places etc they have seen in TV.

I've just started watching the series as well, thoroughly enjoy it.

Maybe try Under the Vines if you can find it

Bit of a rom com series filmed around the vineyards of Clyde and central Otago

We find it just a nice pleasant and also with a good storyline …. a bit of a modern version of Agatha Christie and it makes a change to have no swearing and sex scenes

I didn't watch it but our friend Ross McKellar was the mayor/santa in a couple of episodes in series 3. He's just filming something at the moment, about an evangelical church leader.
His youngest daughter Phoebe plays Tilly in One Lane Bridge. A very talented family and lovely people.
Never got into any Kiwi programmes myself though. Tried Under the Vines but it was a bit too twee for me.
Great that others are enjoying them though.

800 Words is another series which was quite good, with similar vibe to Under the Vines.

Thank you all for the recommendations, I will try to see if I can view them. We have been watching A Place to Call Home and are really enjoying the series. It is set in a rural area of Sydney in the 1950’s.

I am also , particularly as some of those poms have written that it is realistic to the times.

We were really looking forward to this but we found it not great at all and what a poor ending.

I agree, there again I don’t rate Michelle Keegan as a very good actress.

It is filmed in places on the outside of Auckand, much of it around Warkworth but the Brokenwood police station is an old Post-Office building in Helensville.

Another place to appreciate New Zealand as the backdrop of a TV series is My Life is Murder (season 2 onwards). That is in Auckland itself and I always think it looks pretty good.

Thank you for all the recommendations, we will certainly have a “look” at the other series mentioned, some of the older buildings looks so lovely and colonial (I wish we’d had more of them in Perth) I cannot “do” an Aussie accent but find I can easy copy a lot of the NZ accent you can hear the Scottish influence for sure.
