Broadband
Hi Telecom have just announced that they are ending their big time unlimited broadband package-
"However, the ongoing traffic management challenges involved with maintaining an innovative plan like Big Time have now made it unsustainable."
Biggest load of rubbish I have heard for years! Uncapped being innovative!!
We get through some 120Gb a month and I don't think anyone even does a reasonbly priced package offering this much. Best we can get now is probably 40GB.
Worth thinking about if you like your Broadband"!

Re: Broadband
Could I ask how you get through 120GB per month? That's an awful lot of HD movie downloads

That sounds like a commercial quantity of data??? I'm afraid to say the package will have ended because of too many peeps like yourself with huge usage...the internet isn't an infinite resource in terms of infrastructure like anything else...

Re: Broadband
I'm on the same package and get through about 50GB a month, sometimes it's down to 30GB but I'm screwed now as I'm tied to Telecom for a few more months.....

Re: Broadband
All European ISP's with Unlimited Plans have a 'fair use' policy so TNZ saying that they have 'Vampires' that are downloading Terrabytes and ruingin for everyone else doesn't really wash. I know you can Spoof it BUT with static IP addresses it is quite easy to identify the commercial users and 'persuade them (Ban them) to go onto another plan.
This move by TNZ SUCKS ....we use about 40-50Gbt's and it's going to cost us twice as much now...
...and how about the fact I entered into a minimum of a years contract that if I wanted to get out of they would sting me but if they want to cancel the package...oh that's OK....
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR :curse:

Re: Broadband
Had no problem in UK with a similar usage- uncapped access was why we went with Telecom in the first place, and I don't see why I should have to keep checking what I use!!

Re: Broadband
I was on the Go Large plan initially and it wasnt very good as the speeds were prohibitively slowBut at least I didnt have to worry about a cap. When they decided to pull it they told me it was going to be a grandfather plan ie wasnt being sold to new customers, but I could keep it going................
.....then they send me a letter telling me they are going to pull the plan and id have to "choose" another plan - Big time meaning an extra $10 per month for vitually the same thing. The speeds arent much better and are throttled from 9am till late at night.
......now they're canning Big time and ill guarantee they'll change very little with their existing lowGB (but not cheap enough) plans. I actually dont use too much per month. I think the most Ive ever used in a month was 40GB but average about 25GB.
Id be very surprised if some people are using 1TB+ per month as the download speeds arent fast enough.
Telecom are a joke - XT failed, Go large - failed, Big time - failed.............
unfortunately there isnt another stand out plan with any of the competition

Re: Broadband
Hey guys,
Just got my residency through the other day, so here to stay :-)
Currently I am using Woosh in Auckland, which, to be honest, is PAINFULLY slow. What would you reccommend as an alternative? I edit video and the like for a living, so sending HUGE files is an almost daily requirement.
Ive looked at a few providers, but if anyone can reccommend a fast provider with failry decent speeds (I dont expect it to be UK fast), then I would be keen for some input!
Thanks,
Tristan

Re: Broadband
So maybe I was being a little unfair to Telecom...I've just checked my usage since being on "Big Time" and despite not having a cap the family only ever got to 18gbt in a month...so the transfer to the 20Gbt plan for us would be fine......however you can bet once we do they'll find a way to up they usage....ooo yes I know...when my student daughter and boyfreind visit!

Re: Broadband
200gb/month isn’t really that much when you are getting BBC/HBO/USA HD programs rather than watching the garbage on TV (Other than Shortland Street I mean, of course). But this problem is actually just a small part of a much bigger problem, it wouldn’t be so costly for people if their incomes where rising at a higher rate than the expenses they were expected to pay. All road lead to Rome in this respect :-).
Anyone who invested with Telecom will know that company is in a deep spiral downwards (mostly incompetence, corporate greed, mismanagement problems and lack of technical expertise over a long period of time) so really I’d be brace for things to get a whole lot more expensive in the short term...

Re: Broadband
Hi guys, i've just had to call them today as we've gone over our 40gb package, they said there are no other packages to put us on and well have to pay the 2c a MB for excess usage.
After having a look at the business packages, i've asked them to put me on the 60gb deal @ $97 a month. They weren't too keen initially and wanted to put me on a new 24m contract, but i explained that we'll be looking to leave the country soon and they have done it without any contract extension.
So to those of you who are using over 40gb, call them and get put on the 'business advanced' deal.
Hope this helps.
