British RMN Nurses

Hi,
I'm sorry that this may be the duplicate of an already existing thread but I've been through 25 to 30 pages of threads, can't find what I'm looking for and got tired of finding thread after thread of the same old stuff.......it's just as tedious on the Bulgarian forums....perhaps there could be separate sections, one for "Seeking information not opinions....?" and another for "points of view, opinions and experiences" to help people find what they're looking for more easily. Just a thought.

Anyway, I would like to talk to any British Registered Nurses about the process involved in registering in NZ.
I'm an RMN who has been out of the NHS for 3 1/2 yrs but want to use my qualification towards my points and it would be good to work as a nurse again. My registration is up to date.

I'm particularly concerned that the NCNZ are asking for the syllabus of my training! This is for real or have I misunderstood something? I qualified in '89 (this makes me old doesn't it), the school no longer exists and the health authority (now there's an oxymoron) has gone through at least 3 major boundary changes etc, etc......I just know the information doesn't exist.

Can anyone tell me where on the UKCC website I can find out who to write to about them sending the information that NCNZ want.
And references! Jesus....I don't know where everyone is these days.
It would be great to talk to any Registered Nurses who've had to deal with a similar set of circumstances.
That's it for now.
Please get back to me 'cos I am bewildered.
Trogg

Re: British RMN Nurses

Annoying as it may seem you'll probably need to start the lengthy and tedious process of tracking down defunct institutions etc to get what NZNC want. Better start to warm toward tedium ....

Re: British RMN Nurses

I was rather hoping you wouldn't say that. Problem is not living in the UK
Have you been through the process yourself?

I emailed the NMC and they were very helpful. My college of nursing also no longer exists but with a bit of detective work found out the uni that took over the courses and got my transcript no problem. I also wrote to previous employers explaining the situation and got references from them. You need to show how many hours you have done in practice to be able to get your certificate to practice which you must have to work or at least show that you have been keeping up to date with PREP requirements. Also have you looked in the working abroad by profession section at the bottom of the main forum page? Try in nursing and you may get some more info from there. HTH and you can PM me if needed.

Re: British RMN Nurses

Hi again,
Phyl: Don't know what HTH means:confused: and don't think I can PM yet.
Looking at your time scale, it sounds like you got through the process pretty quickly. Are you in NZ yet. Thanks for the threads, very useful.
Re. hours of practice. I've got something like 14 yrs in the NHS plus another 4 or 5 in agencies and private sector. Do they have a minimum requirement and is it in total or per year?
I've not worked as a nurse for nearly 4 years now and was wondering if I'll need to do the back to Nursing course.
The big problem is all my PREP stuff got lost when we came to Bulgaria, how important is it, or will the NCNZ accept references?

I think I need to go back a bit and do some more research:rolleyes:

Is Karonius out there?

Thanks everyone
Simon

:rofl::rofl::rofl:HTH is short for hope that helps and you can Pm after you have 3 posts I think. Not in NZ yet, aiming to get there as soon as house sold as I have a job waiting on me at Dunedin.

I had to list all the PREP stuff I had done in the past 3 years. I put it on a spreadsheet and had this signed by the sister at work after she saw all my reflections I had written up. I then had to email a couple of them to show what evidence I had of attending the courses, self study etc. Also had to list the hours I had worked yearly as a nurse in the past 3 years. Why not email them at the Nursing Council? They were always helpful to me;these are the people I had dealings with
[email protected]her Rutherford overseas registration administrator
[email protected]ey Turia nurse advisor.
If I can help anymore give us a shout

Re: British RMN Nurses

Thanks Phyl,
Just sorted my transcript of training, it was simple, they knew exactly what I wanted and were really helpful. £75 is a bit harsh though:blink:
Thanks very much for the contacts. I'll get onto them right away.
And yes, TDH :D
Cheers

Hi Trogg

Sounds like your having a bit of a nightmare!

As far as proving your work hours - I just multiplied 37.5 hrs per week over 52weeks and got it signed by my manager.

PREP requirements should be easy as they are kept up to date each year.

I think your going to have to get references from your previous employers (I had to for my ITA so called up my manager from 2004 and it was no problem)

Good luck

Becky

Re: British RMN Nurses

I'm not sure but I'm wondering whether not having worked as a nurse for 4 years might be a problem for Trogg- either with NZNC registration or visa???

Re: British RMN Nurses

I agree - the thought crossed my mind as well.

I remember when I got my NZNC paperwork through they specifically stated that you had to have worked as a nurse for either 160 hours each year for the last 3 years or over the last 3 years in total or something like that.

The problem you may have is that when you renew your NMC registation, don't you have to sign that you have done so many clinical hours? but as its a self declaration the NMC do not have proof of it which is why they won't confirm it for you.

Re: British RMN Nurses

I think your right, the application form is pretty specific.
I've written to the nursing council (thanks weejie) to ask if there's a way around this but it's not going to happen.
I've read a thread where someone was saying that NCNZ don't recognize NZ's Back to Nursing course but that the UK one is good:huh: Is this right?

Back to the drawing board I think

What's Oz like...
Cheers
Simon
