If you have a Kiwi passport I don't see any reason why you cannot front up in Aussie and get work.

Trans-Tasman mates

Yep you can.......no problems at all with a Kiwi passport.

The only thing to remember is that you will not be eligible for any welfare benefits for 2 years, otherwise you have the same rights as an Aussie citizen, except the right to vote.

I can't work out if you mean British citizenship or NZ. If it's NZ then yes, as the other posters say, you can just turn up at the border with your Kiwi passport and form an orderly queue ...

British citizenship affords you no such rights; neither does NZ PR.

In fact he won't ever be eligible for most welfare benefits unless he gets Australian permanent resident status.

Not quite true, but there's not a great deal of difference day to day.

as long a you have your Nz passport you will have no problems (provided you dont have a criminal record the aussies find out about)
you may want to look at the implications on your Nz pension, as I am not sure if you would qualify for any aussie state pension
