Default British History Teacher

Would a British teacher of Modern History with a UK degree in modern history be unable to work as a history teacher in New Zealand because the degree is focused on British history? Hope this is not the case...

Try starting here -> http://www.teachnz.govt.nz/overseas-trained-teachers

After having a squiz at that maybe go to the contacts page and get in touch with the relevant department and see what is what.

Good luck.

no clue sorry. other than to say that my history teacher in high school was american (and american trained) and he taught us....hell, it inspired me to get a degree in the sodding subject!

It wouldn't hurt to take a course in nz history probably but why don't you contact a couple of schools? History teachers are a bit weird...they seem to really love the topic they teach so they may be willing to help out with some suggestions.

Also, remember a lot of NZ's history is directly influenced by British History and for some periods British History WAS NZ history.

I'm sure you could teach the NZ history curriculum (whatever it is - it is a young country remember and as others have said very interlinked with UK history) after reading a few books. I would have thought your broader perspective would be welcomed.
