Bring a static caravan to NZ - too good to be true?

Re: Bring a static caravan to NZ - too good to be true?
Bear in mind that caravans are not particularly rigid, and static ones are also relatively heavy .... so they might not stand up too well to six plus weeks of being slowly rocked back and forth - joints will work loose, and rusty welds may break entirely. Static caravans do fine when used as intended which is to be moved to one place and left stationary for years, and moved no more than once or twice in their life, but they weren't designed to take six weeks of being slowly shaken.

If I was gonna be paying out $50k-$80k on anything it'd be sourced from a main dealer who's in the know about all regulations/transportation etc and backed by a full warranty. I wouldnt be buying off some guy who's just shipping it over to make a bit of cash on an As is where is basis - way too risky on that size of investment.....seems too good to be true on paper but in my experience too good to be true usually is!

Oftentimes there will be a covenant on new sections and subdivisions that specifically restricts its use to that of a 'proper' or certain size of house and may specifically state that the owner of the land cannot use a caravan, transportable or relocatable building on the land for the purpose of housing.

They call them portacoms here and they're not to the same standard as UK standard static caravans at all.
