I found some Walkers shortbread in Kmart just before Xmas. They are based in Aberlour - where I used to go to school They make the best shortbread in the world I also have some Nairns oatcakes from one of the local supermarkets. Put that together with my Lurpac butter and I have it made!!

Well we're cheap, so we're currently having some Home Brand Choc Scotch Fingers with our cuppas. Admittedly not quite the same...

Walkers Shortbread in Kmart was my find of the year I thought I had died and gone to heaven, I bought so many boxes because I guessed they were only be there for Xmas. I had been 'whining' to my mother about the lack of a decent bit of shortbread, then within a few days I found some. I went back to buy more and then mum sent me a big tinful of M&S for Christmas. I have so much I have been eating Shortbread for breakfast.
Kmart still have a few dregs of christmas stock left if anyone is interested, however they haven't considered to reduce the price.

Too true! I persuaded my sister to bring me two packs because New World wanted $3something for a single pack!!!!

No hobnobs either. Actually, that's a lie, the Tawa store doesn't have hobnobs. I think Cool Britannia on Taranaki Street does stock the chocolate ones. But i prefer plain hobnobs.

I quite like this thread. I must admit though that I have no idea what hobnobs, bourbon biscuits and Walker's whatevers are.
There's a British shop on Colombo Street here in Christchurch that has an amazing display of exotic (to me anyway) goods that come in quite artistic tins.

Can you get custard creams over there?
Also any NZ biscuits anyone can recommend if the objects of my desire are not to be available.

We got addicted over Christmas to Woolworths own shortbread baked on the premises...it melted in your mouth and was buttery and not oversweet.
One of the nice things about NZ is that you can get lots of familiar foods which you may have to do without in other countries (fish and chips for one) but unfortunately some of them don't quite taste the same.
After M&S Victoria Sponge, my favourite bought UK cake is Battenburg - the one in either New World or Woollies (can't remember which) here looks nothing like it and is just too sweet and colourless and the almond paste is more like icing....one example which springs to mind.
Americans would feel at home though with the constant availability of muffins everywhere. Always taste stale to me.

I will look forward to trying the ANZAC biscuits when I get there.
Other favourites are chocolate chip cookies which do seem to be found everywhere though I don't expect to find Sainsburys extra chocolately ones!
Can feel the waistline shrinking just thinking about not eating them
May just have to dust down my baking skills if no luck on the biscuit front

I don't think it's too bad here..you'd miss UK things more in other EU countries which are geographically much closer. The coffee is great out here but the good news, you can also get a decent cup of tea with milk as well.
Also NZ is sometimes used as a test market so some items you may get earlier. There are some weird Cadbury's chocolate things here on the market but then they have (had?) a factory here as well. The creme eggs are in the shops already...it's just like the UK.

I used to love baking as opposed to cooking but I avoid it now, as once you've baked it, you eat it....before the kids come home .

Tim Tams, though Aussie, are good, especially the raspberry ones that are around just now!
But there are plenty of british import food places around that you can get most of your favourite cravings at if you have a sweet tooth! Cool Britannia in Welly is great, Walkers crisps, Monster Munch, Galaxy Caramel, Raisin & Biscuit Yorkies....mmmmm
