Default Booster seats

NZ apparently awful crash stats for children as it is not mandatory for kids under 148cms to be in a booster seat. The law states any child UNDER 5 must be in one. The reason we have such a high injury/death rate amongst kids is because many parents refuse to listen to the experts that say that any child under 148cms MUST be in a booster seat.

The reason for this is a booster seat will make the lap belt part of the seat belt rest upon the child's upper legs rather than across their abdomen where is it without a booster seat. In a collision all the pressure bought to bear on the lower internal organs damages them so badly many are killed and the lucky ones just get away with vile, debilitating injuries. By contrast those in booster seats do not have any of this trauma as the lap belt rest across the upper leg area.

FYI

I think many NZ drivers see their kids as extra airbags, I cant think of any other
reason I see so many sat on adults laps in the front seat

There was me thinking it was mandatory to have a small person or a dog standing on at least one passenger seat.
